I read this for a second time, and it brought tears to my eyes all over again. That the characterizations of Amrod and Daeron are so clear, so finely wrought, in such a relatively brief tale is amazing. I thought the idea of the pyres for the poisoned Noldor, with the echo of Amras' burning sounding beneath, was a brilliant piece of writing. The ending was satisfying, despite the overall sadness of the story.
